{"id":6321,"date":"2021-08-20T00:03:17","date_gmt":"2021-08-19T22:03:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/digitalhistory.unite.it\/gregorio-fernandezs-saint-teresa-of-jesus\/"},"modified":"2021-11-23T15:28:12","modified_gmt":"2021-11-23T14:28:12","slug":"gregorio-fernandezs-saint-teresa-of-jesus","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/digitalhistory.unite.it\/en\/territories\/urban-routes\/museo-nacional-de-escultura-of-valladolid\/gregorio-fernandezs-saint-teresa-of-jesus\/","title":{"rendered":"Gregorio Fern\u00e1ndez&#8217;s &#8220;Saint Teresa of Jesus&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Gregorio Fern\u00e1ndez&#8217;s &#8220;Saint Teresa of Jesus&#8221; <\/h1>\n<div class=\"testo\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Mar\u00eda Bola\u00f1os Atienza, Director of the National Sculpture Museum, shows us one of the most important works preserved in the permanent exhibition at the Museum.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The transfer of the <a href=\"\/en\/territories\/urban-routes\/valladolid\/the-church-of-san-pablo\/court\/\" title=\"Court\">court<\/a> from <a href=\"\/en\/territories\/urban-routes\/alcala-de-henares\/the-ermita-del-cristo-de-los-doctrinos\/madrid\/\" title=\"Madrid\">Madrid<\/a> to <a href=\"\/en\/territories\/urban-routes\/valladolid\/the-church-of-san-pablo\/valladolid\/\" title=\"Valladolid\">Valladolid<\/a> in the early seventeenth century, converted the new home of the monarch into a center of attraction for writers, intellectuals and artists. Among the latter, <a href=\"\/en\/territories\/urban-routes\/valladolid\/the-church-of-san-pablo\/gregorio-fernandez\/\" title=\"Gregorio Fern\u00e1ndez\">Gregorio Fern\u00e1ndez<\/a> also came to Valladolid. The sculptor created several works for the convents of the city, and some of them are preserved in the National Sculpture Museum. Among the subjects represented, of particular importance was the figure of the great mystic <a href=\"\/en\/territories\/urban-routes\/museo-nacional-de-escultura-of-valladolid\/gregorio-fernandezs-saint-teresa-of-jesus\/saint-teresa-of-avila\/\" title=\"Saint Teresa of \u00c1vila\">Teresa of \u00c1vila<\/a>, who, in those years, not long after her death (in 1582), was proclaimed a saint (by Pope <a href=\"\/en\/territories\/urban-routes\/museo-nacional-de-escultura-of-valladolid\/gregorio-fernandezs-saint-teresa-of-jesus\/gregory-xv\/\" title=\"Gregory XV\">Gregory XV<\/a> in 1622). Fern\u00e1ndez represents Saint Teresa of Jesus in the climax of a mystical vision.
