{"id":6552,"date":"2021-08-20T00:03:40","date_gmt":"2021-08-19T22:03:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/digitalhistory.unite.it\/leonforte\/"},"modified":"2021-11-23T17:45:08","modified_gmt":"2021-11-23T16:45:08","slug":"leonforte","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/digitalhistory.unite.it\/en\/themes\/mansions-of-the-nobility\/branciforte\/leonforte\/","title":{"rendered":"Leonforte"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Leonforte <\/h1>\n<div class=\"testo\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalhistory.unite.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/leonforte_4_220x151.jpg\" width=\"220\" height=\"151\" alt=\"Leonforte1\" align=\"left\">Leonforte was founded in 1610 in Baroque style, and soon became the place of residence of the prince and privileged seat of a small &#8216;<a href=\"\/en\/territories\/urban-routes\/valladolid\/the-church-of-san-pablo\/court\/\" title=\"Court\">court<\/a>&#8216;, where artists, men of culture and the greater nobility of the <a href=\"\/en\/territories\/urban-routes\/lecce\/other-works\/kingdom-of-naples\/\" title=\"Kingdom of Naples\">kingdom<\/a> congregated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The prince initially had five hundred homes, a palace, a stable, several churches, mills and a warehouse built there, alongside an existing group of shacks that served as residences of the settlers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalhistory.unite.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/3992_leonforte_gran_fonte_5__222x156.jpg\" width=\"222\" height=\"156\" alt=\"Leonforte2\" align=\"left\">Soon he financed the building of other valuable monumental works such as the <em>teatro delle acque<\/em> (theatre of the waters), in a garden park, now in a state of disrepair, and many squares that characterized the development of the city. The grand Branciforte palace, which existed on the central square, was built next to the church of <em>Sant&#8217;Antonio da Padova<\/em> (Saint Anthony of Padua). Also important is the circular market square (now <em>Regina Margherita<\/em>), which became the commercial centre of the town.
