Soon freed from Mannerist influence and the teaching of the Carracci, Reni developed his own personal style, in his native Bologna and stays in Rome and other Italian cities, thereby becoming one of the great masters of the seventeenth century Italian painting. Among his works there are: the <em>Crucifixion of Saint Peter<\/em> (Pinacoteca Vaticana), the <em>Massacre of the Innocents<\/em> (Bologna, Pinacoteca Nazionale), the <em>Works of Hercules<\/em> (Paris, Louvre), the <em>Adoration of the Shepherds<\/em> (London, National Gallery) and <em>Cleopatra<\/em> (Rome, Pinacoteca Capitolina).<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guido Reni A pupil, as Francesco Albani was, of the mannerist Calvaert, Guido Reni (1575-1642) entered the academy of the Carracci in his twenties.
