Santas Formas Incorruptas

The history of the Formas Incorruptas  (incorruptible forms) of Alcalá de Henares dates back to 1597, when the Jesuit Juan Juárez received, in the secrecy of confession, a total of twenty-six forms of the Eucharist, the result of a sacrilegious theft from a Morisco (a former Muslim who converted to Catholicism). Eleven years, the Jesuits discovered that, despite the humidity to which they were exposed, the forms were still intact, and it was immediately interpreted as the result of a genuine miracle. Since then, the Santas Formas were venerated and taken in procession public and also accompanied by the royal family. Nevertheless, the encasing and the Santas Formas themselves disappeared during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).
