Bagnara

BagnaraA political, administrative and commercial center of primary importance, in 1419 the fief of Bagnara was given by Queen Giovanna D’Anjou to Carlo Ruffo, the Count of Sinopoli in exchange for 12,000 ducats. This was the origin of the name Ruffo di Bagnara who made of this fief the basis of the political and economic power of the family, which had the production and marketing of silk one of the leading economic sectors, together with the production of timber and fishing. Under the rule of the Ruffo, the city was also transformed from an urban and architectural point of view and the renovation and rehabilitation of existing buildings was significant in accordance with their housing needs and in tune with the dictates of the most modern Renaissance and Baroque tendencies.
