“Re-public – la Repubblica cantata” is a podcast that tells the story of Italy in the 20th century through its songs. It consists of five episodes, one for each decade, from the reconstruction to the 1990s-2000s.
How to listen to the podcast:
- On Google Podcast;
- On Spotify.
The project was entirely carried out by the students of the master’s degree course MAC (Media, Arts, Cultures) of the Faculty of Communication Sciences of Università degli Studi di Teramo under the supervision of Andrea Sangiovanni, professor of Public History. The students carried out the research – both in the musical and historical fields – wrote the texts, recorded and edited the episodes. In addition, digital products were created (through a digital storytelling platform called Shorthand) in which some of the themes described in the podcast were explored.
The aim of the podcast is to create a historical entertainment product, which tells the story of the Italian Republic (born in 1946) from an unusual point of view, but, at the same time, with a certain rigour in the references and in the use of sources.
The songs were not used as a pure accessory, a musical interlude to lighten the text, but were the protagonists of the story: a real source for knowledge of the history of Italy, able at the same time to bear witness, when the songs were a reflection of social change, and to be protagonists, when they participated in a phase of change, becoming the interpreters of a new way of feeling.
