Pietro Fantoni
From near Bergamo, Pietro Fantoni’s dates of birth and death are unknown, but he is principally associated with his production in Sulmona, where the presence of Lombard masters has been documented with a certain continuity from the sixteenth century onwards. In particular, Fantoni took part in the intense work of the reconstruction of the church of the monastery of Santa Chiara and of the church of the Santissima Annunziata. The traces of his presence in Sulmona are lost after 1716, when he appears, along with other Lombard artists such Giovan Battista Pianezza and Francesco del Zoppo, in the restoration work of the Cathedral of San Panfilo.
