Iñigo Vélez de Guevara, Count of Oñate
Iñigo Vélez de Guevara (1597-1658) called el mozo (the youth) to distinguish him from his father of the same name, was the seventh Earl of Oñate and fourth Earl of Villamediana, a leading figure of the reign of Philip IV of Habsburg (1605-1665). He had an intense political career which saw him taken on the roles of ambassador to Britain and Rome and viceroy in Naples. Having pacified the kingdom of Naples after the Masaniello revolt (1647-48), he returned to Spain where he entered the State Council and received the title of Marquis of Guevara. Appointed governor of the Duchy of Milan in 1658, died shortly after without having the chance to hold the position.
