Renovation of castles and fortresses
Very often the nobles inherited old buildings, often castles or fortresses of the Middle Ages which they were quick to update through architectural interventions in which Baroque elements, in addition to updating them, also made functional according to new housing needs. Thus imposing façades were added along with portals surmounted by the coat of arms of the families, balconies, using marble or other valuable materials, stairways, courtyards. Interiors were enhanced with spacious halls and rooms were added. Another important element in the renovation of old buildings is the addition of well kept gardens or walkways that lead to open spaces, towards the sea, lakes, forests, with great attention to the natural elements.
