Potenza

PotenzaThe city of Potenza, currently the capital of the region of Basilicata, to the threshold of the modern age passed from the domain of the Angevins to that of the Aragonese. Following the regime change, the new rulers conceded the county of Potenza to the lineage of Guevara. Before the Spaniards consolidated their domain in the Kingdom of Naples, Potenza and Basilicata were the scene of clashes between the latter and the French. In the city, riots and protests broke out against the Spanish government during the famous Revolt of Masaniello. In 1694, however, the capital of Lucania suffered a devastating earthquake that reduced it to rubble.
